Man Ray

He was born the 27th of August of 1890 in Philadelphia (US) and died the 18th of November of 1976 in Paris (France), where he spent most of his life. His real name was Emmanuel Radnitzky.
He was also a contributed to the Dada and Surrealist movements.

He is well-known for two photo techniques: solarization and rayographs.
Although there are some of his work that I cannot understand (like "L'étoile de mer") I have got to like some of his pieces that I founded creepy the first time I saw them.

I think I have understood that some of his work honor women and he shows that by depicting their bodies in some many ways.
I hope I am not wrong since it's sad to see how much women and their work have been denigrated during History, hidding their talents and being silenced like if they never were in the picture (this is also a request to my professor, to extend the syllabus and offer some women in History of Photography that we can do research on).
That's why I am choosing two different portraits of two different women of two different ages.
Women matter and their are beauty, no matter age, time and circumstances. And that's why I think (and hope) Man Ray wanted to show in his photographs.

Lee Miller (solarization)

I have to end up with one of the most controversial pictures I have found by Man Ray. Not because of the picture itself but because of the meaning behind it since its title is "Prayer".
I am not a religious person so I identify myself with this photograph because of the sassy implication it has against religions (which match my ideals) in contrast to the offensive meaning it could have to religious people.
